Summer Bioscience Initiative Program

GenoSensor Education is proud to offer the Summer Bioscience Initiative for high school students interested in learning about molecular biology, biotechnology, and performing hands on experiments. The summer Bioscience Initiative is a 3 week program where students gain hands on lab experience working in a laboratory setting. First, students are taught how to use everyday lab equipment, then they will work their way up to performing there own experiments using DNA. Students will finish classes understanding how to operate important lab equipment and perform common molecular biology and biotechnology techniques such as DNA isolation, gel electrophoresis and Polymerase Chain Reactions (PCR).

  • Designed and Taught by Industry Leaders

    • The Bioscience Initiative was founded by GenoSensor Corporation to provide high school students interested in Bioscience a competitive edge. Students will work hands on in a laboratory setting learning how to properly use equipment and handle solutions with efficiency.

  • Hands on Lab Training

    • Students will receive hands on training from professionals. They will get the chance to handle real DNA with equipment commonly used in labs across the world.

  • Learn Modern Bioscience Techniques

    • Students will be exposed to the latest Bioscience techniques such as Polymerase Chain Reactions (PCR). PCR is a method of DNA amplification commonly used by crime labs, hospitals and research labs across the world to identify criminals, diagnose illnesses and study specific genes.

  • Fun and Friendly Classroom Environment

    • In addition to industry personnel, local high school science teachers will be on hand to help lead instruction. Their passion for science creates an environment for students to learn, grow and pursue their passions.

  • Experience that will Benefit Students in College and Work Careers

    • It is our goal for students to leave with knowledge and experience that will help them stand out on college and job applications. The hands on experience they receive will leave them with the confidence and skill they need to succeed.

  • Guest Speaker from the Bioscience Community

    • There will be at least one, if not more, guest speakers from the Bioscience community. This will give students an opportunity to learn about jobs, experiences and ask questions to a professional who works in the field.

  • Notebooks, Resume and Personal Statement Help

    • Students will receive a composition notebook at the beginning of the class to use for recording notes and writing lab reports. This notebook will be physical proof of students experience and can be used for job applications and interviews in the future. At the end of the class we will discuss with students how to take the new skills they have learned and apply them when writing a resume and a personal statement.
